Being involved in the BLV blog meant I had been excitedly imagining Reuben’s first tastes since before he was born! The six months flew by and it was soon time to try him on his taste adventure – I imagined our little family creating many happy memories of relaxed, fun mealtimes, especially after reading of other bloggers’ joyous experiences of the world of weaning. Edamame, Courgette & Potato Croquettes

Almost as soon as I’d finished taking the shot of these little beauties, a small hand reached out and grabbed one, devouring it before I even had a chance to offer them round. That was my 3 year-old, who completely adores these. It later turned out they are also a big hit with the baby. Well, who doesn’t love a bit of fried potato!? Fortunately these are also packed full of fresh green goodness and the edamame beans add a protein punch, making them a complete mini-meal in themselves.
Family bircher breakfast

Our family can’t get enough of this easy to make Bircher recipe! It’s a delicious soaked fruit muesli, so a great way for babies to get more raw fruit in their diet as it softens up beautifully.
The 6 ingredients don’t need any cooking, just 15 minutes soaking time (or overnight for extra creaminess). The Bircher mix is eaten cold; a fantastic family breakfast in the summer when you fancy a hearty filling meal without having to sweat over hot porridge!

Beetroot Bread

It’s probably fair to say that most kids love bread. To be honest, I love bread! It’s hard to avoid and is pretty much a staple in our house. So I got to thinking… why not throw some kind of veg into the dough to make it a little bit more nutritious and perhaps a little more colourful while I’m at it? Then I also wouldn’t feel quite so guilty handing my 9 month-old a fist-full to chew on while I finish making dinner, even if he also had some at lunch time!
